LinkedIn Profile Picture Size
The LinkedIn profile picture size has to be between 400 × 400 and 7680 × 4320 pixels, in JPG or PNG, and no larger than 8 MB, according to LinkedIn Help. Below are the full requirements, how the photo is cropped, and how to make a headshot that fits them from one photo.
One photo • 2 variations per generation • Packs from $9
LinkedIn Profile Picture Size Requirements
- Dimensions: between 400 × 400 and 7680 × 4320 pixels.
- File size: 8 MB at most.
- File type: JPG or PNG. GIFs are not supported.
- Background photo: the separate banner image has a recommended size of 1584 × 396 pixels.
These figures come from LinkedIn Help (linked in Sources below). LinkedIn can change them, so check the help page if an upload is rejected.
How LinkedIn Crops Your Profile Picture
LinkedIn shows your profile photo in a circle, and at its smallest it appears as a tiny avatar next to comments and messages. Anything near the corners of a square image is cut off.
Keep your head and shoulders centred with a little space above your head, and avoid busy backgrounds that compete with your face at small sizes. A square image of at least 400 × 400 pixels gives LinkedIn enough detail to crop cleanly.
LinkedIn's Rule on Profile Photos
LinkedIn's Professional Community Policies say: “Do not use an image of someone else, or any other image that is not your likeness, for your profile photo.”
Our generator edits the photo you upload and keeps your face, changing the background and clothing. That keeps the result your likeness, but you are responsible for the photo you put on your profile, so use one that looks like you today.
